Weidmuller builds new logistics center

Weidmuller's new logistics center near Eisenach

With the largest single investment in the company's history, Weidmuller is sharpening its logistics profile

Detmold, Friday, February 5, 2021. With the largest single investment in the company's history, the Detmold-based electronics specialist Weidmuller is set for growth: Not far from Eisenach, a new logistics center is being built on a site measuring over 72,000 square meters. Construction work has been underway since autumn 2020 and completion is planned for 2022. With this investment in the double-digit million range, the family-owned company is setting the course for continued growth and improved customer service in the shipping sector.

Just ten kilometers from the Thuringian Weidmuller GmbH (TWG) site, with optimal connections to the plant itself, the motorway and easy access to the two most important German freight airports in Frankfurt and Leipzig, Weidmuller is sharpening its logistics profile. The new building is the basis for future-oriented and innovative logistics, and an investment in Germany as a business location.

The new logistics center, which goes by the project title "NGL" (Next Generation Logistics), will be the global transshipment point for all products from the plants in Germany, Romania, and the Czech Republic. "We are in a growth industry and supply innovative technologies and products that are crucial for the availability of machines, plants and also infrastructures," explains Chief Sales Officer Dr. Timo Berger. "In order to meet the increasing dynamics of our markets, we must continue to optimize all supply chains. Digitalization and connectivity play an important role in this. With a new logistics concept, we can implement these requirements – from the dispatch of our suppliers to the goods receipt of our customers – in a targeted and optimized way."

Despite the pandemic and uncertainty in 2020, postponing this building project was simply not an option. "Today more than ever, we must think about the time after the crisis and the incoming changes and gear our actions towards them," Berger continues. As a medium-sized family business, Weidmuller is planning the company's development for the long term. "This is the only way we can be and remain efficient and be a reliable partner for our customers. This includes becoming even faster, more flexible and better in our delivery and customer service."

The construction is also necessary to allow further growth at the plant in Thuringia. "The upward trend that we could already see in the fourth quarter of last year is continuing, which is why the first business figures for 2021 are also extremely promising," says Berger. "We are optimistic about the coming months, hope for rapid progress in containing the pandemic worldwide and expect a positive development of our markets in the coming years." Within this context, the new logistics center is an important milestone for Weidmuller in order to be able to meet future challenges.
